On Saturday, 28 June 2025, the Long Night of Science (Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften – LNDW) celebrates its 25th anniversary and invites curious minds of all ages to explore the world of science in exciting and accessible ways. From 5 p.m. to midnight, around 50 scientific and science-related institutions in Berlin and Potsdam will open their doors for an evening full of discovery.
Visitors can look forward to spectacular experiments, inspiring lectures, science shows, lab tours, interactive exhibits, and exclusive insights into current research projects. The programme is spread across five areas of the city – from the western districts to the centre and Buch, all the way to the southwest and southeast. Special offerings for schoolchildren and families ensure that the event appeals to all generations.
The LNDW not only aims to inform the public about local scientific work, but also seeks to strengthen trust in science – especially in times of increasing disinformation, conspiracy theories and fake news. By fostering openness and transparency, science can offer grounded and nuanced perspectives on the complexities of our modern world – a mission that is particularly relevant for the social sciences.
Since 2019, the Cluster of Excellence SCRIPTS has been a regular participant in the LNDW. Through panel discussions, round tables, and casual ‘Meet the Scientist’ formats, SCRIPTS engages the public in conversations about current social and political issues. Whether hosting its own events or collaborating with other Berlin Clusters of Excellence, SCRIPTS helps make academic research accessible and relevant to contemporary societal debates.
