Discussion & Book Launch | "Sortiermaschinen" with Steffen Mau at Humboldt Labor

Aug 26, 2021 | 07:00 PM - 08:30 PM

Steffen Mau in conversation with Stefan Gosepath and Naika Foroutan, moderated by Christiane Hoffmann

Are borders becoming more permeable in the age of globalisation? What are smart borders? Principal Investigator Steffen Mau (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin) from the Research Unit Borders shows in his new book Sortiermaschinen. Die Neuerfindung der Grenze im 21. Jahrhundert (Verlag C.H.Beck), how new walls and militarised border crossings are now being built in many places. Nowhere is the Janus face of globalisation more evident than at 21st century borders.

Prof Mau discusses the arguments of his book with Principal Investigator Prof Stefan Gosepath (Research Unit Orders) and migration researcher Prof Naika Foroutan (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Berliner Institut für empirische Integrations- und Migrationsforschung) live at the Humboldt Labor in the Humboldt Forum Berlin.
