The aim is to bring different regional perspectives into conversation and use them to challenge, refine, and broaden the questions we ask at SCRIPTS.

Connectivity provides a particularly useful lens for this dialogue. Economic ties, migration, digital infrastructures, institutions, and political cooperation connect societies across borders. These connections can enable cooperation, openness, and adaptation. At the same time, they can create dependencies and vulnerabilities – and become a source of pressure and contestation.

SCRIPTS explores this tension across three dimensions: (A) Geopolitics & Geoeconomy, (B) Society, and (C) Technology. By engaging with scholars in different regional contexts, we want to understand how connectivity is experienced and interpreted in different parts of the world – and what these perspectives can tell us about the resilience of the liberal script.

The first conversation takes us to East Asia in September 2026. Across three workshops in Tokyo, Shanghai, and Seoul, SCRIPTS researchers and local scholars will explore connectivity and resilience from different East Asian perspectives.

East Asia is the starting point of a broader series of regional conversations. Further exchanges will follow, connecting perspectives across regions around our shared question: How does connectivity shape the resilience of the liberal script?
