The paper, titled "The Free Authoritarian Men: Analysis of Political Discourses of Far-Right Leaders in Latin America", argues that these leaders promote a regressive and authoritarian model of masculinity through seemingly liberal narratives centred on individual freedom. Duarte Sckell shows how appeals to freedom are used to justify stricter gender hierarchies, the exclusion of women and LGBTQ+ communities, and the normalisation of violence as a legitimate political tool.
By highlighting the convergence of religious conservatism, online misogynistic narratives, and authoritarian neoliberalism, the study sheds light on the gendered dimensions of contemporary far-right politics and their implications for democratic societies.
