Hilde van Meegdenburg is a post-doctoral research fellow at the LMU Munich and the TU Munich. She obtained her Ph.D. from the Freie Universität Berlin where she graduated from the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies. Her research focusses on political decision making and societal norms in relation to foreign and security policy. More specifically, she studied the outsourcing policies and practices in the defence institutions of Canada, Denmark and Israel from a comparative perspective, and she is currently studying how social-emotional norms and social relations between peoples influence national support for, and political decision making regarding, humanitarian interventions in cases of human suffering. This latter project – ‘Social Distance in International Relations’ – has recently been awarded a grant from the Deutsche Stiftung Friedensforschung to conduct a pilot-study.

She has published in: Contemporary Security Policy, Cooperation and Conflict, and Zeitschrift für Friedens- und Konfliktforschung.
