Founded in 1652, the Leopoldina has served as Germany’s National Academy of Sciences since 2008. In this role, it represents German  research at the international level and provides independent, evidence-based advice to policymakers and the public. In December 2025, the Academy’s Presidium elected Anette Eva Fasang as a member of the Leopoldina, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to sociological research.

Anette Eva Fasang holds the Chair of Microsociology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and served as Director of the Institute of Social Sciences from 2023 to 2025. Her research focuses on demographic change and the social structure of societies, drawing on both quantitative and qualitative methods. In particular, she examines family dynamics and life-course processes, with attention to the emergence and persistence of social inequalities over time.

She is a member of the executive board of SCRIPTS and has received numerous awards and distinctions for her research. Among other recognitions, she was named a Fellow of the European Academy of Sociology in 2024 and received the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Research on Work and Family in both 2018 and 2023.
