About the Event
AI has taken centre stage in society. In politics, in media debate and, of course, in the business world, AI is both taken for granted and treated as an object of fundamental controversy. But it did not simply arrive at that point. It was brought into being, not only technologically but also with the help of longstanding and powerful discourses establishing AI as both magical and inevitable.
Who drives this process? How does this discourse materialise in AI governance and, ultimately, in our understanding of AI? The lecture reconstructs this discursive order of AI and its performative politics, drawing on empirical work on the 'global AI race,' media debates across different countries, and interviews with stakeholders.
This event is the last of five lectures in the SCRIPTS Forum Autumn Lecture Series.About the Speaker
